ASER – Pratham Initiative

Citizen-led assessment of learning outcomes among rural school children.

SCOPE participated in the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) process in Dharwad district, helping connect a national citizen-led learning assessment with local communities and district stakeholders.

The initiative

ASER was created by Pratham to assess basic learning levels among children in rural India through a simple, large-scale household survey. The approach focuses attention not only on school enrolment, but also on whether children are gaining foundational reading and arithmetic skills.

SCOPE’s role

SCOPE participated in the Dharwad district survey for three years — 2013, 2014 and 2015 — and supported community engagement and sensitisation of district-level stakeholders around the findings.
